Recommendation for a place to keep the kids entertained?

by Wong
(Singapore)

Hi!

My husband and I will be visiting HK for 4 days with our two girls 10 and 7 early August. We will be staying at Prudential Hotel and this will be our second visit in 3 years. It is a short break mainly for the kids. I have specific questions and really appreciate some expert opinion! Thanks!

1. The first and last day will be travelling days, so I reckon we cannot do much except shopping. Can I know which shopping mall is good for kids stuff and entertainment? I don't really need branded merchandise. Is Festival Walk or City Plaza or Grand Century Plaza good for us?

2. We have decided to visit Ocean Park on our second day. I understand we can take a bus from a bus terminal at Admiralty MTR station. Is it possible to pay the bus fare with Octopus Card or we need loose change?

3. Our major problem is the third day. We are looking for a nice place to visit with the kids. We have visited Disneyland before, so that is out. We have considered Stanley, but worry that it will not be interesting to the kids. There's the option of Ma Wan Noah's Ark Park and Repulse Bay beach (beach is not so attractive in hot August weather!). Can somebody be kind enough to give a good suggestion for a good family place?

Thanks a lot!

2.) Yes, you can use Octopus card to pay the bus fares in going to Ocean Park also, it can be use to other bus, minibus and ferry.

3.) Here are the places to consider that I would recommend for you to choose specially for your kids aside from Noah's Ark and Repulse Bay:

* Hong Kong Museums - You and your kids will discover the Hong Kong's culture and heritage. Also, your kids will surely love the hands-on interactive exhibits and dazzling technology that these museums has to offer. Why not give a chance to your kids to learn new things, expand their knowledge and to inspire them to learn even more when they return home.

* Exploring the GREEN side of Hong Kong and enjoy the greeny of these popular parks:

a) Hong Kong Park - an 8-hectare of green oasis boasting landscaped gardens with ponds and waterfall, a greenhouse and an aviary - Admiralty MTR station Exit C1, walk thru the Pacific Place and then follow directional signs to the park.

There's also a Kung Fu corner on Sundays that demonstrates its martial arts to give you and your kids a chance to learn a little bit of Kung Fu - Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station Exit A1

Opening Hours: 5:00am to 12:00 mid night
Admission: Free (except Swimming Pool and Sports Centre)

c) Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens - one of the world's oldest zoological and botanical centers having more than 1,000 species of plants beautifully displayed in the gardens also houses about 500 birds including the American flamingos - Admiralty MTR station Exit C2, and take a 5 mins taxi to Albany road entrance.
