Itinerary for a 2 days stay in Hong Kong and 1 day in Macau

by Aileen
(Philippines)

Hi, we plan to visit Hong Kong and Macau for the first time on the first week of November. We will be exploring Hong Kong for 2 days only and 1 day for Macau. Please help us with our itinerary to maximize our vacation. We will be staying at Mirador Mansion. As to the places we wanted to visit, below is what we have in mind.

- Ngong Ping 360, Giant Buddha, Po Lin Monastery, The Wisdom Path, HK Disneyland. (Lantau Island)

- Sky 100, Avenue of Stars, Sky100. (Kowloon)

- The Peak, Madame Tussauds, Ocean Park HK (HongKong Island)

- Ruins of St. Paul's Church (Macau)

Please suggest an itinerary for us, what to ride to go those places and how much the fare would be and any other attractions that we can possibly go to during our stay.

Can you also suggest the restaurants where we can eat that's cheap but with good sanitary conditions. We have children along with us.

Lastly, where in Hong Kong and Macau can we buy souvenirs? Especially printed shirts. Thanks!

Hi Aileen,

A child age below 3 years old is FREE for most public transportation in Hong Kong.

In mainland China, they based on the child's height not on their age such if the child's height is below 1.1 meters it's FREE, from 1.1 up to 1.4 meters is half fare, and above 1.4 meters should pay full fare.

Thank you so much for the reply. If I may ask, does a 1 year old need to pay for the fares in MTR's and other transport vehicle?

It is Autumn in Hong Kong during October and generally considered as the most pleasant among the 4 seasons weather condition in HK. Temperatures are still high (20-27°C) while humidity and rainfall are considerably lower. Moreover, autumn is the sunniest season in Hong Kong, with October and November both averaging close to 200 hours of bright sunshine. Winds become cooler, dries, and easterly.

Here's to read location info about ( Cosmic Guest House Hong Kong (you need to scroll down to post dated "Jul 28, 2011" on that page).

Getting around Hong Kong from Cosmic Guest House which is located in Mirador Mansion:

* Here's a travel route in traveling between TST and HK airport.

* Getting to the Victoria Peak from Cosmic Guest House. Walk and follow directional signs to the TST Star Ferry terminal (about 6 minutes). Take the Star Ferry to Central and walk to the nearby Central Pier Bus Terminal (9 minutes @ HK$2.5). Take the bus 15C (open-top) to the Peak Tram (10 minutes @ HK$4.2).

* Getting to HK Disneyland from Cosmic Guest House. Get into the TST MTR station and take the Tsuen Wan Line train going to Tsuen Wan and get off at Lai King station. Interchange to the Tung Chung Line trains going to Tung Chung and get off at Sunny Bay station. Finally, interchange to the Disneyland Resort Line train that will bring you straight to Disneyland station. Total train travel time is 38 minutes @ HK$17.

* Getting to the nearby popular street markets from Cosmic Guest House. Get into the TST MTR station and take the Tsuen Wan Line train going to Tsuen Wan and get off at...
a) Jordan station (3 minutes @ HK$3.8) then take Exit A, follow directional signs and walk about 4 minutes to the Street Markets - Temple Street Night Market.
b) Mong Kok station (7 minutes @ HK$4.6) then take Exit E2, follow directional signs and walk about 4 minutes to the Ladies' Market.

Above fares are based when using an "ADULT" Octopus Card. Please purchase a "CHILD" Octopus Card for use of children below 12 yrs old to avail a half of fares.

Macau day 1:

Exploring Macau: The standard of living is more or less same as HK and HK dollar is widely accepted in paying taxi, stores and hotels.

The best place to visit in the city (except for gambling) would be Largo Do Senado (Senate Square), the main plaza. If coming directly from the Macau Ferry Terminal, even though Macau is quite a small place but it is quite a long walk to get there, taking a bus is also quite slow so the best option is to take a taxi to save time and energy. Then from the plaza, you can take a short walk to the Ruins of St. Paul's Church and the some other tourist attractions.

Hello Aileen,

Mirador Mansion location in Tsim Sha Tsui is superb for HK travelers, here's how to get there from HKIA and to see the location map.

Here's my personal itinerary suggestion for you to consider to maximize your time during your HK-Macau visit:

HK day 1: Ngong Ping 360 (to visit Giant Buddha, Po Lin Monastery, The Wisdom Path, and the rest of Lantau Island - Lantau tourist attractions --> HK Disneyland and stay until 9:00pm to watch the "Disney in the Stars" spectacular fireworks show --> back to hotel

HK day 2: Ocean Park --> The Peak to visit also the famous Madame Tussauds (or Sky100 for HK's 360-degree view) --> Open-top bus 15C to Central Pier --> Star Ferry to Tsim sha Tsui --> stroll along TST promenade to visit Avenue of Stars and watch the Symphony of Lights --> Street Markets also a perfect place to buy some souvenirs.

How to get there instruction from Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) to Ngong Ping, Ocean Park, to the TST China Hong Kong Ferry terminal, and the other popular attractions, here's getting to Ocean Park from TST.

OR, if you opt to Sky100, then it would be... Ocean park --> Sky100 --> taxi (8 mins @ HK$25) to TST promenade to visit Avenue of Stars and then watch the Symphony of Lights show that starts at 8:00pm --> street market

Sky100 is located at 100th floor of Hong Kong's tallest (total height = 484 mts) building, the International Commerce Center (ICC) in Nga Cheung Road & Austin Road West, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Close to the Kowloon MTR station. It offers its visitors a 360-degree view of the city's streets, buildings, and tourist attractions.

Note: the bold and blue color fonts stands for major tourist attractions, their links are in the bottom of this page. Please follow those links to read more information about it, specially on how to get there.
