I am in Hong kong for 15 hours. Would love some help

by meena
(Los Angeles, USA)

I am arriving at 5:40 am in HK and my connecting flight is at 10:45pm. There will be three travelers.

I would love to see Victoria Peak, Aberdeen fishing village to ride a sampan, eat dim sum at Jumbo seafood floating restaurant and go to the ladies market.
I would also love to see Nong Ping or the Po lin Monastery as well but I don't think I have enough time.

Any help on how to get to these place would be much appreciated.

thank you so much.

Yes, it is a good idea to take your breakfast at the airport and then go straight to the Peak Tram afterwards.

Since the Peak is located in Hong Kong island, it is also a good idea to proceed to Aberdeen after the Peak since it is also located (southern part) of same island so that you can surely get a sampan ride along Aberdeen promenade.

So your new itinerary option would be something like this...

Airport (7:00 am) --> The Peak (until 12:00 noon, you can take your lunch at the Peak) --> 14 mins / HK$80 to Aberdeen (stay until 5:00pm) --> 16 mins / HK$85 to Central Pier --> 8 mins / HK$2.5 Star Ferry ride to TST --> stroll along TST promenade + Avenue of Stars --> 12 mins / HK$40 taxi to Ladies Market (shopping until 7:00pm) --> back to airport by taxi (37 mins @ HK$260) or by bus A21 (55 mins @ HK$33). It is about 5 mins walk to the bus stop at Nathan rd from the market.

Here's a video to watch for Sampan Ride at Aberdeen Harbour:

For toy market at fuk wing street, if you're at Mong Kok (Ladies' Market), you can take a MTR train from Mong Kok to Sham Shui Po station for only 5 mins train ride @ HK$4. Then take exit B2 or D2 to get to the Toy Street.

some more questions

I will be there on a Sunday so it looks like the peak tram opens at 7am and the sky terrace at 8am. I don’t want to see Madam Tussauds. Would I still need 6 hours (until 1pm) at the peak?

Since it's so early, it would probably be best to get something to eat the airport correct?

Also since it’s so late would we be able to ride the sampan in Aberdeen closer to the evening? Could I do Aberdeen from Victoria peak and then back to ladies market or would I be looping.

If I can’t…the taxi fare is a little steep from Aberdeen to the airport, would we be able to take the train?

How far is the toy market (fuk wing street from any of the locations I will be going to?

Thank you, you have been so helpful.

Hi meena,

Please be aware that most of the popular attractions in HK will open at 10:00 am in the morning so basically, you've at least 9 hours to budget considering until 7:00 pm.

Here's my personal itinerary suggestion yo maximized your layover stay in Hong Kong and to make it a memorable experience.

HK airport --> the Peak (until 1:00pm) --> TST promenade (via Star Ferry) --> Avenue of Stars (just a short stop here also to get a glimpse at Victoria Harbour) --> 10 mins / HK$30 taxi to Ladies Market (shopping until 4:00pm) --> 18 mins / HK$90 taxi to Jumbo Kingdom, Aberdeen, Hong Kong (dinner and sightseeing until 7:00pm) --> 42 mins / HK$330 taxi straight to HK airport from Aberdeen area.

Here's to read other options to spend your layover time in Hong Kong with details on how to get there.
