4D3N Hongkong-Macau Trip (3 adult)

by yeti
(cebu, philippines)

Hi! My 2 friends and I will be going to Hong kong this September for a vacation. This will be our first time to travel Hongkong so I badly need some help when it comes to our itinerary. We wanted to go to ocean park but someone told us to drop it since it would be really tiring to cover 1 macau and 2 theme parks in just 4D3N trip. I've been doing some research for a week already and took notes on some HK traveler's advise. But I still want to seek some advice regarding this. Here's what I've come up so far:

DAY 1: (Nan Lian, Ngong Ping 360, The Peak, Avenue of Stars)

8AM – 10AM: NanLian Garden / Chi Lin Nunnery
11AM – 2PM: Ngong Ping 360
3PM – 5PM: The Peak (Madame Tussauds Wax Museum) (At least 2 hours)
6PM – 7PM: Go back to Taisan Guest House for Check in
8PM – 9PM: Avenue of Stars + Clock Tower (Watch the Symphony of Lights)
Walk around TST or visit the night market afterwards

Can you please help me with the directions from the ff routes?
1. Nan lian to Ngong Ping
2. Ngong Ping to The Peak
3. The Peak to Taisan Guest house (which is located at Nathan Road)
4. Taisan Guest house to Avenue of Stars

DAY 2: (MACAU Trip)
DAY 3: DISNEYLAND til 8PM for fireworks
8PM onwards: still undecided which is more feasible: Disneyland to Mongkok or Disneyland to Causeway District? And can i ask again for the directions on going there?

DAY 4:
9AM – 6PM:
Take Star Ferry from TST to Central
Take Tram to Causeway Bay (stroll/shop a bit)
Back to Mongkok by MTR (stroll/shop a bit)
Go back to Taisan for the Luggage
7PM – 9PM: Citygate Outlet Mall (Dinner)
9PM: TO AIRPORT

I'm really not sure about the DAY 4. I haven't actually think of better plans on our last day. our flight would be at 11:30 PM so most probably we still have a day to stroll. Is it possible to cover the ocean park here after the star ferry? or do you have some better suggestions for our 4th day? I would really appreciate it you can fix our itinerary. Thank you so much. :))

Re: use of octopus cards NEW
by: HKinsider stellar

Hello :)

Purchase Octopus Cards at any MTR Customer Service Centres whether at the HK Airport, Sheung Wan MTR station, etc. An octopus card will cost HK$150, which is inclusive of a HK$50 refundable deposit and HK$100 stored value. Your Octopus can be reloaded up to HK$1,000 in total value at thousands of locations throughout Hong Kong. Visit the following locations for cash reloading:

-Authorised Add Value Service Providers, such as convenience stores, supermarkets, fast-food chains

-MTR Customer Service Centres

Ngong Ping Village remains open as normal. You may get there by taxi or by bus. Here's my suggested itinerary:

HKIA--> Ngong Ping--> Disneyland

Please Click Here for travel instructions (post dated May 29, 2010).

Or, if you wanna go straight to Dinseyland from HKIA, please Click Here.

use of octopus cards

Are octopus cards also for sale at sheung wan station or must be bought at the hk airport?I want to see what HK Airport looks like and take pictures before going on my day trip to Disneyland since I will be flying in and out through Macau. Is it doable to drop by Ngong Ping Village for sight seeing(since the cable ride is still under maintenance repairs?)from HK Airport, before proceeding to Disneyland or after the fireworks@8pm? Thank you.

NGong Ping Round Trip Cable Ride (HK$125)
Citygate Outlets can be reached to and from the airport in just around 10 minutes by buses S1, S52P and S64. Walk to the nearby Tung Chung MTR station (Entrance / Exit C) and take the trains to Sunny Bay station then interchange to Disneyland Resort Line to Disneyland MTR station. (Pls help I don’t know if correct?
Or From Hong Kong International Airport, get on the Airport Express Trains for a 13 minute Airport To Tsing Yi trip (HK$60). And then another 14 minute trip from Tsing Yi all the way to the last station, Tung Chung Station(HK$14) and find Exit B.
Or if Ngong Ping is not doable I can go directly to Disneyland by following any of these:

• “Take Bus No. A35 from Airport Urban taxi stand to Fu Tung Shopping Centre. Walk to the nearby Tung Chung MTR station (Entrance / Exit D) and take the trains to Sunny Bay station then interchange to Disneyland Resort Line to Disneyland MTR station, 38 minutes - HK$26.6.

• Take Bus No. E22B from Airport (GTC) Bus Terminus to Citygate, Tat Tung Rd. Walk to the nearby Tung Chung MTR station (Entrance / Exit C) and take the trains to Sunny Bay station then interchange to Disneyland Resort Line to Disneyland MTR station, 38 minutes - HK$35.6.

• Take Bus No. S56 from the Passenger Terminal Building, Cheong to Tung Chung MTR station. Take MTR station (Entrance / Exit B) and take the trains to Sunny Bay station then interchange to Disneyland Resort Line to Disneyland MTR station, 42 minutes - HK$15.1.

• Take Bus No. E22A from Airport (GTC) Bus Terminus to Citygate, Tat Tung Rd. Walk to the nearby Tung Chung MTR station (Entrance / Exit C) and take the trains to Sunny Bay station then interchange to Disneyland Resort Line to Disneyland MTR station, 45 minutes - HK$60.

If you prefer, you can also take the Airport Express Trains from Hong Kong International Airport at MTR Airport station to Tsing Yi station. Then from Tsing Yi station, take the Tung Chung / Disneyland Resort Line trains towards Tung Chung. You should get off at Sunny Bay Station and interchange trains to the Disneyland Resort Line for trains going directly to Hong Kong Disneyland MTR station, 33 minutes - HK$60.”HK Disneyland

* Getting back to Taisan Guest House from the Peak. Take the bus 15C at the Peak Tram bus terminus that can be found close to the Peak Tram lower terminal to Central Ferry Pier bus terminus (10 minutes @ HK$4.2). Walk to the nearby Central Pier no.7 and get on board in the Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui (9 minutes @ 2.5). From TST pier, you can walk about 10 minutes along Nathan road to the guest house.

Actually, once you arrived at TST Pier, you can walk along the TST promenade before heading to the hostel to visit the Avenue of Stars and that place is also a vantage point to watch the Symphony of Lights show every 8:00pm.

DAY 2: Whole day for MACAU trip.

Also, here's a must-read topic discussion about first time visit to Macau, please click here.

DAY 3: HK DISNEYLAND. Please be informed that most of the time the fireworks show will start at 9:00pm and usually most of the malls in Hong Kong will be close at 10:00pm so I would suggest a street market shopping in Mong Kok after Disneyland.

* Get into the Disneyland MTR station and then take the train to Sunny Bay station. Interchange trains to Tung Chung Line and get off at Lai King station. Interchange trains to the Tsuen Wan Line and get off at Mong Kok Exit E2 (34 mins @ HK$17) for Ladies' Market or get off at Jordan station Exit A (38 mins @ HK$17) for Temple Street Night Market shopping.

Hello yeti,

I supposed you stay at Taisan Guest House Burlington branch. To read details about this hostel and see a location map, please click here (post dated "Apr 08, 2011" on that page)

Nan Lian Garden is located at 60 Fung Tak Road, Diamond Hill, Wong Tai Sin, Kowloon. Officially open on November 14, 2006 being designed in the Tang Dynasty-style with an area of 3.5 hectares. It offers its visitors a view of special wooden structures, old and valuable trees and rocks. Opening hours: 7:00 am - 9:00 pm

* Here's how to get from Taisan Guest House to Nan Lian Garden then to Ngong Ping and the most efficient way for this route is by taking the MTR trains:

Get into the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station (Exit B is the nearest) and take the Tsuen Wan Line train heading to Tsuen Wan and get off at Mong Kok station. Interchange trains to the Kwun Tong Line train heading towards Tiu Keng Leng station and get off at Diamond Hill station (19 minutes @ HK$6.9) and then take Exit C2. Follow directional signs for just couple of minutes walk to the garden.

* Proceed to Ngong Ping. Get back into the Diamond Hill station and take the trains heading to Yau Ma Tei and get off at Prince Edward station. Interchange trains to the Tsuen Wan Line heading towards Tsuen Wan and get off at Lai King station. Finally, interchange trains to the Tung Chung Line to Tung Chung station (41 minutes @ HK$14.1) and then take Exit B. Walk about 4 minutes to the NP 360 Cable Car Terminal and then take the cable car to Ngong Ping (25 minutes @ HK$115 for round trip ticket - recommended). The rest of NP attractions is just a short walking distance from the cable car terminal.

* Getting to the Peak from Ngong Ping. Take the cable car back to Ngong Ping terminal at Tung Chung. Before getting into the Tung Chung MTR station, you may opt to visit the Citygate Outlets for dining and shopping.

Get into the Tung Chung MTR station and take the Tung Chung Line train all the way to Hong Kong station (travel time is 29 minutes @ HK$18.8) and then take Exit A1 or E2. Take a taxi for a short drive to the Peak Tram Lower terminal @ HK$25.

Other alternate route from Ngong Ping to the Peak (if you don't want to return to Tung Chung by cable car) is by taking a ferry from Mui Wo to Central, instruction details can be read in here (go to the post dated "Nov 25, 2009" on that page).
