1 Full Jam-Packed Day in Hong Kong

by Megan
(Vancouver)

Hi,

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Asia in August, with only one full day's stay in Hong Kong. We will be staying at the Salisbury at the YMCA which I understand is a very central area. We will be arriving to Hong Kong at 4:30pm on a Thursday and plan to take the free airport shuttle bus to the hotel. We want to take advantage of our short stay and plan to see the Symphony of Light show, then walk down Nathan Road to visit both the Temple Market and Ladies' Market. We were wondering if it doable to walk to these markets from our hotel and how long it would take.

Bright and early the next morning, we would like to visit the Museum of History, ride the Star Ferry, take the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak, ride the Ngong Ping 360 to see the Giant Buddha, and experience the nightlife at Lan Kwai Fong. Which is the best and fasted route to see all these attractions? Also, I would like to hear what other attractions you think we can fit into our day.

Thank you so much for the Website and FAQs. It has been such a great aid in planning the Hong Kong leg of the trip. It was my duty to plan Hong Kong and my boyfriend's to plan Beijing; so I am excited to "wow" him. :)

The Salisbury Hotel YMCA of Hong Kong is a 3-star hotel conveniently located at 41 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.
Tel: +852 2268 7000

The Hotel Salisbury YMCA is also a walking distance to a number of Hong Kong attractions, museums, and popular landmarks such as the Space Museum, the Clock Tower, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Star Ferry, the Avenue of Stars and the Symphony of Lights (could be viewed from your hotel room). The Hong Kong Museum of History and Hong Kong Science Museum is about 10 minutes walk from your hotel heading northeast (refer to map below).

* Day of arrival itinerary:
HK airport to hotel --> Avenue of Stars and Symphony of Lights --> street market shopping

Getting to Salisbury Hotel YMCA of Hong Kong from HK airport:
I just like to clarify that there's NO free shuttle bus service from HK airport direct to the hotel. But there's a complimentary free shuttle bus only for Airport Express passengers. In your case, you can take the Airport Express from Airport to Kowloon station (21 minutes @ HK$90) and then take the Airport Express Shuttle Bus route K2 and get off at 1st bus stop located at Kowloon hotel which is across the street to the Salisbury hotel.

Bus option. Go to the Airport (Ground Transportation Centre) to your right upon exit at HKIA arrival hall and take the CityBus CTB A21. Counting the Airport (GTC) as bus stop no.1, you need to get off at bus stop no. 14 located at 30 Nathan Road before Middle Road outside the Imperial Hotel and opposite to the Kowloon hotel that is next to the Salisbury Hotel YMCA of Hong Kong. Bus travel time is 64 minutes @ HK#33.

From your hotel, take a short walk to the TST promenade to visit the Avenue of Stars and to watch the Symphony of Lights that starts at 8:00pm then proceed to street market after the show.

Getting to the theme street market:
The Temple Street Night Market is located somewhere in between Jordan and Yau Ma Tei about 15 minutes walk heading to North along the Nathan Road from your hotel and another 15 minutes to the Ladies' Market which is in between Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok area.
