Re: Which Airport Express Ticket is the best Option, Single or Return Trip?

My family will be arriving Hong Kong on 6 Aug Sat morning for 5 days trip.

Usually we purchase Airport-Kowloon return tickets ($160) as we can get the free airport shuttle to our hotel and check-in our luggages at the station on the last day.

During our last trip, we discovered we could do fairly good last minute shopping and 'yam-cha' at Tsing Yi station before depart for our flight back home in the late afternoon. From Tsing Yi, we will need to purchase another single trip ticket HK$60. Total cost for this way is HK$160 + HK$60 = HK$220.

We are wondering if it is better to purchase a single trip from airport to Kowloon on 1st day. After checking in the Kowloon station on last day, take a normal MTR to Tsing Yi station and take a single trip from Tsing Yi to airport. This alternative way will cost HK$90 + HK$8.50 + HK$60 = HK$158.50 with a saving of HK$61.50 per person. For big family like us the saving can be quite substantial.

The question here is if we purchase single trip airport express on 1st day, are we able to check-in at the Kowloon station on the last day? I remember vaguely we need a valid airport express ticket to go into the check-in area.
