How to get to and from HKIA and Shamrock Hotel hotel

by Wendy

Hi,

I'm travelling to HK with my family (4 adults in total). We're arriving in HK on 23 July at about 10.30am and leaving on 30 July, with my flight at 8.30pm. I'm arriving at Terminal 2 at HKIA. My hotel is Shamrock Hotel at Jordan MTR.

I read from some of your answers to questions that you can take a cab from the airport to your hotel. Can I check how much it is for a cab to Shamrock hotel and how much are the baggage charges per piece of luggage? Would this amount include tolls etc? If not, what would be the approximate total cab fare?

Also, it is easy to get a cab back to the airport from the hotel? Would the charges be the same?

I also have a question on the Octopus Card. Can I buy this card from any MTR station? What time does the counter open and close?

I look forward to you reply. Thanks in advance for your help!

Taxi Cabs or Taxis that you can find at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA):

Taxis in Hong Kong are color-coded according to their operating areas (red taxi for your destination, for Kowloon).

* Urban taxis (Red) - serve all destinations throughout Hong Kong including the airport except Tung Chung Road and roads in south Lantau.

* New Territories (N.T.) taxis (Green) - serve only the New Territories and specific roads in Lantau.

* Lantau taxis (Blue) - serve all destinations in Lantau and the airport.

Any luggage being put inside the cab's baggage compartment will be charged per piece @ HK$5 to HK$10 depends on the size. Any toll charges are not being paid by the taxi passenger (already included in the taxi basic fare).

A taxi from HK airport straight to Shamrock Hotel is about 40 minutes drive @ HK$225 (excluding luggage charges). Charges for return trip is the same.

Re Octopus card. Yes, you can buy your octopus card at any MTR station, just approach the MTR costumer service booths that is usually located at the train station entrance and most of them are open from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Also, upon arrival at HKIA, go to the Airport Express (train) counter that you can find at the arrival hall and buy an octopus card.

Octopus Cards are available in Adult, Elder (senior citizens aged 65 or above), Child (aged 3 to 11), and Personalized versions. Elder and Child are subject to half fares.

How to use the octopus card? Simple, just swipe your octopus card over the fare deducting processor at the entry or exit gate of any MTR station, bus entrance, or ferry entrance.
