Hongkong Itinerary for 4 Days 3 Nights

by Naija
(Philippines)

Hi there,

I would like to ask if you can help me with our Hongkong visit on October 17-20,2011.

We'll be arriving Oct17 at 8AM and Departure will be Oct20, 9PM. We'll be staying in one of the hotels in Causeway. What will be the fastest and cheapest way to go to the following places.

Is it possible that our Day 1 will going to hotel first then Lantau island then ride the cable car? Then in between we take rest in the hotel and in the PM ride tram to Victoria's Peak?

Here are the other places we want to go;

Disney Land - watch the fireworks
Ocean Park
Symphony of Lights, Avenue of stars
Star Ferry harbor
Shopping, Ladies market

Our hotel is in Causeway.

We need to squeeze in Macau by the 3rd day, can we can ride the Ferry by 3Pm,visit Ruins, Venetian and casino and sleep in Macau for 1 night, then go back to Hongkong in the morning?

I would appreciate if you can give me how to commute and schedule of trips, thank you :)

Naija

Hello Naija,

Here's my personal comments and recommendation for you to consider in planning your HK - Macau trip itinerary.

Oct 20, Thu: 8:00am arrival at HKIA --> take a taxi to Tung Chung (10 minutes @ HK$45) and leave your luggage at Citygate Outlets --> walk to NP 360 Cable Car terminal --> take cable car to Ngong Ping (25 minutes @ HK$115 - round trip ticket, recommended) --> explore Ngong Ping and the rest of Lantau Island tourist attractions (until 3:00pm) --> take the cable car back to Tung Chung --> proceed to the Citygate Outlets nearby, you can opt for a quick shopping before getting back your luggage --> check in to the hotel at Causeway Bay, MTR trains from Tung Chung Line all the way to Hong Kong station, walk to the adjacent Central station and then take the Island Line train and get off at Causeway Bay (42 minutes @ HK$18.8).

After check in, proceed to Victoria Peak. Take the Island Line train at Causeway Bay MTR station and get off at Central station Exit J2 (7 minutes @ HK$4.6). You can take a short taxi drive to the Peak Tram Lower terminal or you can opt to walk, please click here to read instruction. Stay at the Peak until 7:00pm.

From the Peak, proceed to TST promenade to visit the Avenue of Stars and watch the Symphony of Lights show that starts at 8:00pm. Please click here to read getting there instruction.

You can spend the rest of the evening for shopping at popular shopping malls at Causeway Bay or to Kowloon area for street market shopping.

Oct 21, Fri: I think you need to select HK Disneyland or Ocean Park in day 2. These featured attractions in Hong Kong offers its visitors a full day activity.

Oct 22, Sat: A day in Macau. First timers in Macau, please click here to read topic discussion.

Oct 23, Sun: Shopping, HK Museums, and Departure at HKIA.

Thank you so much for your advise. This is very helpful. I really like this site. By the way on our first day, can we also watch the symphony of lights while on board Star Ferry Cruise? Will we have the chance to see Avenue of Stars if we get on board somewhere else to ride the Star ferry? I think that we'll be great if we do things at one time. Also dou advise that we get the Octupus Card with the Itinerary that we have? Thank you so much!

@ Naija,

Yes, you can take the Star Ferry's Hong Kong Harbour Tour but you need to get there a little bit early at Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Pier to book for the ride. You'll enjoy unobstructed views of the Victoria harbor and the Symphony of Lights show, read more details in this page.

The Avenue of Stars is only few minutes walk from the TST Star Ferry Pier, so you can always get a chance to visit it while you're in TST promenade.

Yes, it is a huge advantage if you purchase an octopus card. It will save much of your time when taking the public transport in touring around HK. Please click here for more details about the octopus card.

Hi there,

Thank you again for your wonderful advise. I think we finalized up our plans for DAY1 ( lantau and Victoria peak, star ferry) and DAY2 - whole day Disneyland.

I'm thinking Day3 will be more of shopping and sightseeing in the City and go to Macau late afternoon, spend one night.

Then on Day4, from Macau early morning will go back to HongKong City then proceed to Ocean Park. Do you think it's okay? Until what time can we stay in Ocean park and go back to our hotel in Causeway to get our stuff, before we head back to Airport depart at 9PM back to the Philippines.

Another question is with the Itinerary above, what type of Octopus card should we get,since our stay is for 4 days and only 3 days is allowed to use the unlimited service? We will not use the airport express on first day because we will have to go directly to Ngong Ping as you advised. Thank you and your site is the best :)

@ Naija,

In your Day4, yes, it is doable.

Another thing to consider to maximize your time specially if you think you can manage to carry easily your luggage, you can check out from the hotel before going to Macau (day3 afternoon) and then proceed to Ocean Park right away coming from Macau in day4. That will save you a night of hotel charge in HK.

Getting there: From Macau, take the ferry that will take you to the Hong Kong - Macau Ferry Terminal at Sheung Wan --> walk 5 minutes to the Central Ferry Pier (outside Central Pier 6) where you then take the bus CTB 629 that will bring you to Ocean Park entrance (30 minutes @ HK$10.6) Or take a taxi straight to Ocean Park from the HK - Macau ferry terminal for about 13 minutes drive @ HK$50.

Or, you can also check out from the hotel in the morning (day4), proceed to Ocean Park bringing along all your luggage and stow your luggage at Ocean Park. I think it is more efficient to take a taxi from the hotel in Causeway Bay straight to Ocean Park. The distance is not far, only about 10 minutes drive @ HK$35.

Just like in Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung, there are also luggage lockers available for rent (no time limit for that day of your visit) at Ocean Park and details as follows;

* BIG lockers: price = HK$95; size = 23.6" X 18" X 37.4"
* Small lockers: price = HK$70; size = 17.7" X 15" X 25.5"

You can explore Ocean Park until 6:00pm and then go straight to HKIA from there. Again, a taxi would be the most efficient transpo considering those luggage. It is about 45 minutes drive @ HK$300. Please click here for options in travelling between Hong Kong airport and Ocean Park.

About the Octopus card, in your case, just purchase the regular Octopus Card.

Hope this help and hope you'll have a wonderful stay in Hong Kong and Macau. Also, thank you for your compliments in our website.

Ngong Ping
by: Ida (Malaysia)

Hi,
I'm also going to HK for 4 days 3 Nights trip on 26 - 30 Oktober.

Just wanna know, if I arrive at HKIA about 2pm, is that possible for me to go to Ngong Ping after the arrival? (my hotel is in Kowloon area)

Thank you in advance.

Re: Ngong Ping
by: HKinsider Don

@ Ida,

YES, it is doable. From Hong Kong airport, you can take a 10 minutes taxi straight to Tung Chung NP 360 cable car terminal @ HK$45 --> take the cable car to Ngong Ping (25 mins @ HK$115 - round trip ticket) --> explore Ngong Ping.

Ngong ping service hours is from 10:00am to 6:00pm so basically you can enjoy at least 3 hours in there.

Getting to Kowloon area (example in Mong Kok) from Ngong Ping:
Take the cable car back to Tung Chung --> walk to the nearby Tung Chung MTR station --> take the Tung Chung Line train and get off at Lai King station --> interchange trains to the Tsuen Wan Line and get off at Mong Kok station (32 mins @ HK$14.1).

Questions for Trip to Hong Kong
by: Deng

Hi!

My family is also travelling to Hong Kong on April 26 arriving at 740am and depart by April 29 at 940pm. We are 3 adults and 2 kids and our hotel is at Evergreen Hotel (Woo Sung Street, Jordan)

I would like to get your help in the itinerary especially on what bus/train to take and how much is the cost so that we could set our budget for the trip. The kids are really excited since this is their first time to visit another place outside the Philippines. Hope you could help.

Our initial plan for the trips is below:

Day 1 - Check in at the hotel, Victoria's Peak, Ride the Star Ferry and visit the Avenue of the Stars
Day 2 - Go to Disney Land, should I buy the ticket online?
Day 3 - Ocean Park and Ladies' Night Market
Day 4 - Museums? Shopping? Where else could we visit since the flight is 940pm?

@ Deng,

Here's a sample itinerary to maximized your trip based on the places of HK attractions you've mentioned.

Day 1: Disneyland whole day, do not miss the fireworks show. Actually, you can go straight from airport to Disneyland and then check-in to the hotel in the evening. There are luggage lockers for rent at Disney where you can stow your luggage while exploring the park.

Day 2: Ocean Park whole day (maybe until 5:00pm) --> The Peak --> bus 15C to Central Pier --> Star Ferry ride to TST --> walk along TST promenade to visit Avenue of Stars and watch the Symphony of Lights show at 8:00pm --> street night market shopping (very close to your hotel).

Day 3: Museums + shopping at well-known shopping malls at TST area.

Day 4: Check out from the hotel early in the morning --> Ngong Ping 360 (you can stow your luggage at Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung before taking the cable car to Ngong Ping and then get it later when you get back to Tung Chung before heading to HK airport) --> departure

To know about the location of your hotel and the detailed instruction in getting to the places of attractions, please go to this page.
